STATE INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

rivate long-lining companies have successfully begun in Pohnpei.  There are opportunities and sufficient facilities for additional long-liners or long-lining fleets to base in Pohnpei, either as a foreign operation or in joint venture with a local company.

The Pohnpei Fisheries Corporation (PFC), currently a government-owned state-of-the-art processing plant, has been advertised for sale, lease or joint-venture with a foreign investor. Additional information can be obtained through the Pohnpei state site.

Fisheries

Pohnpei is at the center of Micronesian $1 billion tuna catch zone.  Purse-seine(skipjack) and long-line (yellowfin and bigeye) fishing opportunities are open for foreign fleets, with trans-shipment facilities, cold storage, and ice factory in Pohnpei's safe harbor.

Air and ship cargo lines link Pohnpei with Japan and the U.S. (duty free export to
the USA).

Several established fishing companies, with fleet, plants and facilities, are available for immediate investments.

Tourism

Pohnpei (formerly known as Ponape) is the Garden Island of the Pacific.  Micronesia is little known to tourists, but the Pohnpei Government is undertaking a $1 million project to boost tourism.

Archaeology: Nan Madol ruins from a 1500 years old civilization, the Venice of the Pacific, with 92 man made islands, with basalt stone buildings, interconnected by canals.

Scuba-diving:  Over 100 miles of reef encircle the island, with manta and shark passages, and adjacent coral atolls.

Jungle waterfalls:  a dozen of pristine uncommercialized waterfalls that can be reached wia marked trails in the jungle.

Bird watching:  dozens of species, of which two can easily be seen, only on Pohnpei (the Pohnpei Lory Serehd and the Pohnpei Fantail Likepsier).

Also:  agro-tourism, wind surfing (in the lagoon, within the reef), stamp-collecting (FSM issue their own stamps, and the head office is in Pohnpei-Kolonia), sport fishing, mangrove trips, plus lots of friendly people.

If you are a tourist investor-----check with our Foreign Investment Board for investment opportunities such as 4 to 5 star hotel construction (land has already ben set aside for this purpose), beach construction, hotel renovation, tour operations, mini-bus services, just to mention some of the projects.

Agriculture

Government land is available on Pohnpei for long-term leases for agricultural development (the Chinese government has just completed a million dollar investment in model commercial plantation).

Sunny days and rainy nights make Pohnpei the ideal greenhouse for virtually all plantation and cultivation whether for cash crops and for organic produce.

Pepper processing plants are available for immediate investments.

The copra industry is available for renewed exploitations.

Untapped potential for raising cattle, snails, frogs, mushrooms, cacao, sugarcane and all kinds of tropical fruits.

The forestry industry can have all the advantages of operating in a tropical jungle climate (even mahogany).
